Fishtails, 2023

Indonesian Batik Fabric, Wire, Tulle

Fishtails is inspired by the native Indonesian Fishtail Palm tree known as Caryota Mitis that the artwork is present and placed upon in the arboretum. The palm tree is very unique due to its leaf fishtail shape. Influenced by its origin, the artist Sarai MP selected colorful handmade Indonesian Batik fabrics with 93 cut shaped fish-scales to create a three colorful fishtail, and replace the dying fishtail palm tree leaves that have reached their final days.
